Charlottesville Homes STILL Number 1

by Brian Gomas

The most popular Charlottesville homes are in Western Albemarle and located in the small, attractive hamlets of Ivy (birthplace of Merriwether Lewis) and Crozet. Crozet is Albemarle County's designated cluster zone...meaning this is where the majority of new Charlottesville homes are located.

All in all this is pretty damn good news but why? What makes a Charlottesville home so popular? Well several reasons: Excellent Charlottesville Public Schools; laughable real estate taxes; a music scene unsurpassed except by major cities; low crime; no traffic; two fox hunts; exquisite eighteenth century, Palladian architecture (much of it designed by Thomas Jefferson, himself); the University of Virginia is the number one public university in America (and Charlottesville homes near UVA are suprisingly affordable); the Virginia Film Festival; Virginia Festival of the Book; 5 star dining; unsurpassed sports facilities for young and old alike and extraordinary natural scenery (the Blue Ridge Mountains are always within view are are truly blue).

The Keswick farms along the Louisa Road are some of the finest in America and home to Thomas Jefferson and Meriwether Lewis. Charlottesville offers four FULL seasons and a terrific, family-friendly environment. Recently voted the Best Place To Raise A Family, the majority of Charlottesville homes are 3 bedroom and built during the real estate boom of 2004-2005 when we saw our population skyrocket. It was also that year that Charlottesville was voted the Number One Place To Live In America.

One major reason many Floridians move north is the majestic, pastoral beauty of the Piedmont area of Virginia. Almost every Charlottesville home has a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains...and they are blue! We moved here in 1998 and immediately bought a run-down historic Charlottesville home in Ivy. $200,000 later our home was worth 4 times what we paid for it. Now this is not happening today, but it will again soon.

People purchase Charlottesville homes after one look here...I know because my wife did...Wayne Newton, Art Garfunkle, Dave Mathews, John Grisham all have owned a spectacular Charlottesville home at one time.
