The Costs of Moving to NYC
The majority understand that the cost of living in N.Y.C. tends to be astronomically high. So most people know that in order to live there, you have got to have an excellent job or be a part of a very wealthy family. Even tiny apartments cost an arm and a leg in rent there, and it can occasionally cost up to ten dollars for a good cup of coffee.
My pal didn't realize any of this a few years back, when he decided he wanted to move to New York. The bright lights and celebrities attracted him, and that was all he saw in the city. So he went straight to his computer and did a search for "movers NYC," trying to find a good moving company to get his things there. He found one that was inexpensive and also provided storage, so he went with that. Then came the tricky part.
While the NYC movers weren't expensive at all, my buddy still had a car, and the gas and parking costs in NYC are ridiculous. While he was hunting for a loft for a week, he ended up spending more than a hundred bucks on gas and parking.
Then when he found a house, he still had to pay for parking, seeing as there was no car park in the apartment building. So just during and before the move, he spent over five hundred dollars on gas and parking alone. Not to mention the fact that he had to eat, and stay in a hotel, as his flat would not be ready for a week.
When the movers started moving things in, it was a great relief; but he'd spent almost two thousand bucks in no more than a month simply to get to the new apartment! If he had planned ahead a little bit better, he may have moved to NYC without going broke in the process.
